This article contains a few tips and tricks for better invoice scans.

When using Nory invoice scanning functionality you’ll notice that some invoices scan better than others. This is down to the quality of the invoice photos taken with your camera phone.

Taking an invoice photo that scans well isn’t difficult – and you definitely don’t need the latest camera phone to make sure the scans go well

Below are some guidelines for effective scanning:

  • Position the entire invoice or delivery note in the photo frame

  • Take a separate photo for each page of the document

  • Do not write over the line items before you take a photo

  • Take the photo in good lighting – some shadows or wrinkles are still ok!

  • Make sure that the photo isn’t blurry

Here’s an example of an invoice photo that will scan well:

Once you’ve selected the correct supplier and taken a good photo of the invoice, you still might see line items that weren’t matched to items saved in Nory. If those are brand new items – replacements or additions – you can add them manually. For more details, check out the Invoice scanning in Nory article in our Help Centre.

Which photos don't scan at all?

Users with Apple iPhones should turn off "Live Photos" functionality when taking photos of invoices and delivery notes for scanning, and uploading those later.

Uploading a live photo to Nory will result in an error and the document won't be scanned.

Which photos won't work well?

If you noticed the results of the scan aren’t great, you can try again. Here are a few examples of photos that won’t scan well and definitely deserve a second take:
