Stream (formerly Wagestream) is an earned wage access provider. Your employees can draw down part of the pay they have already earned before payday, and Stream recovers it from your next payroll run.
Nory has a direct integration with Stream. Once it is switched on, Stream reads your employees and their approved shifts from Nory automatically, so nobody has to upload shift files by hand.
Who this applies to: brands using Nory WFM (Workforce Management) who also have a contract with Stream. The integration is switched on by Nory per brand, so it is not something you can enable yourself in settings. Setup is run by your Nory onboarding manager together with Stream.
What moves between Nory and Stream
Once the integration is live, three things move between the two systems.
Data | Direction | What it covers |
Employees | Nory to Stream | Everyone employed at the locations included in the integration, plus anyone deactivated in the last 45 days. Includes name, email, role, wage, contract hours and payroll details, so Stream knows who is eligible. |
Timecards | Nory to Stream | Approved shifts from the last 45 days, with times, duration and wage rate. This is how Stream works out how much each person has earned so far. |
Bank details | Stream to Nory | Stream sends the employee's Stream account details into Nory. Nory never pulls bank details from Stream, it only receives what Stream sends. The details on the profile are replaced, and the employee is marked as managed by Stream. |
Two things to know before you start
These are the points that cause most of the delay on a Stream setup.
Only approved shifts count. Stream only sees timecards that have been approved in Nory. If your managers are behind on approvals, employees will see less available pay than they expect.
Stream needs a change request from you. Stream will not start the work on the strength of a conversation with Nory. You need to send them a formal change request by email to kick the migration off.
How to get connected
Follow these steps in order. Steps 1 to 3 can run in parallel, but Nory cannot switch the integration on until Stream confirms they are ready.
Tell your Nory onboarding manager or Nory support that you want to connect Stream, and give them the locations you want included.
Email Stream a change request saying you are moving your data source to Nory, and give them your target date.
Check your employee data in Nory. Every employee who should have Stream access needs a correct email address and payroll ID on their profile.
Ask Nory for your employee mapping file. Stream has to re-link each employee from your old system to their Nory record, and to do that they need the Nory employee ID, name, email and payroll ID. Nory produces this file for you, because the Nory employee ID is not something you can export yourself today.
Send that file to Stream and let them complete the remapping on their side.
Nory switches the integration on for your brand.
Validate together with Stream. Check a sample of employees for correct hours, correct wage rate and correct available balance before you tell your teams it is live.
Who can change bank details
It depends on whether Stream manages that employee's details. You can see this on the employee's profile in Nory.
Employee | Where their bank details are changed |
Marked as managed by Stream | In Stream. Their bank details are locked in Nory, and the change reaches Nory when Stream sends it. |
Not marked as managed by Stream | In Nory. The employee updates their own details from their profile. |
An employee is only marked as managed by Stream once Stream has sent their details across. Being a Stream user does not lock the profile on its own.
Nory support cannot change bank details on an employee's behalf. We will not action a bank detail change requested by email, whoever it comes from. Employees change their own details in Nory, and Stream users change theirs in Stream.
Every change to bank details is recorded in the employee's change history, whether it came from Stream, from the employee or from support.
If you are moving to Nory from Fourth
If Stream currently reads your data from Fourth, you keep your Stream contract and your employees keep their accounts. What changes is where Stream gets the data from.
Until the switch is complete, someone has to upload your shift data to Stream manually, so plan for that in your cutover period.
Any bank detail changes made in Stream during that window have to be entered into Nory by hand as well.
Leavers during the cutover need watching closely. If someone leaves between the two systems being updated, their access may not be removed at the right time.
Check your bank details after the migration
Fourth sometimes held Stream's account details against an employee rather than the employee's own bank account. Those details come across to Nory exactly as Fourth held them, so after a migration you may see several employees sharing one sort code.
What to do about it:
Ask Stream which of your employees are active Stream users.
For active Stream users, leave the details alone. Stream owns them, and any change should go through Stream.
For everyone else, ask them to check and update their own bank details from their profile in Nory before the next pay run.
Employees on long-term sick
Nory does not currently pause Stream access automatically for employees on long-term sick leave or reduced pay. If you need to stop someone drawing down pay they will not earn, block their access in Stream directly.
Common questions
An employee cannot see any available pay
This is almost always one of three things: their shifts have not been approved in Nory yet, they are not at one of the locations included in the integration, or Stream has not linked their account to their Nory record. Check approvals first, since that is the quickest to fix.
Several employees have the same bank details in Nory
This usually comes from the migration rather than from the integration. Fourth may have held Stream's account details instead of each employee's own account, and those details carried over. See "Check your bank details after the migration" above for what to do.
Stream has asked us for an employee ID and we cannot find it
Stream matches people on the Nory employee ID, which is different from the payroll ID shown on the employee profile. Ask Nory support for your mapping file rather than sending payroll IDs, because Stream cannot use those to link accounts.
A leaver still has access in Stream
Offboard them in Nory first. Nory keeps sending deactivated employees to Stream for 45 days after they leave so that final balances can be settled, so access is removed by Stream rather than disappearing from Nory immediately.
Still not working?
Contact Nory support with the following, and we will pick it up with Stream.
The employee's name and payroll ID
The location they work at
Whether they are marked as managed by Stream on their Nory profile
The dates of the shifts that are missing or wrong
What the employee sees in Stream, and what you see on the timecard in Nory
