Actual Cost of Labour (COL) in Nory and your payroll export measure different things, so the totals often won't match. A difference doesn't mean either number is wrong.
What's the difference?
Actual COL is the full cost of your labour, based on approved timecards. It can include employer costs such as National Insurance (or PRSI), pension contributions and holiday accrual, plus salaried staff costs.
The payroll export shows the wages from approved timecards for the pay period. It does not include employer contributions.
Why are my totals different?
The most common reasons are:
Employer contributions. If labour contributions are turned on, Actual COL includes NI, pension and holiday accrual. The payroll export doesn't.
Salaried staff. Cost of labour counts a salaried employee’s cost per scheduled shift, based on a 5-day week. The payroll export splits the full weekly salary across their timecards. If someone works fewer than 5 shifts, Actual COL will be lower than the payroll export.
Absences for salaried staff. Unpaid absences aren’t deducted from salary in the payroll export, unless you run payroll in Nory. If a shift stays on the schedule next to an absence, it’s still costed.
Salaried staff without shifts. If a salaried employee has no shifts on the schedule, their salary isn’t included in Actual COL but still appears in payroll.
Overtime timing. Overtime can land in a different week or pay period depending on when it's approved.
Unapproved timecards. Actual COL only uses approved timecards. Approve all timecards for the period before comparing.
Different date ranges. Make sure both cover exactly the same dates and locations.
How do I check what's included in Actual COL?
Go to Settings > Labour > Employer labour contributions. Each contribution has an option to include it in Cost of Labour. Turn it off if you want Actual COL to show wages only.
